Retirement Planning
A song written in honour of the visit of Kim Phuc to King Edward VII & Queen Mary School, Lytham St. Annes, UK. Performed by Sarah Lenney. Words by Lydia Bower. Music by Lyndon Hills.
'Song for Kim'
This is nothing new, we never learn from our mistakes.
People suffer at the hands of others
But from this nightmare some may never wake.
A burning sky over a flaming earth,
The peace of a small town in tatters
Pain all around, houses burnt down,
At this moment it’s just life that matters.
Sometimes all it takes is the bravery of one
To strike a spark, find a way to the light,
Experience can change us, can scare us, derange us,
But to challenge it is half the fight.
And for that one person
Who made the decision to forgive all the anguish inflicted
For the sake of who knows what,
As always,
The point is lost behind all the stories of victims.
But they’re not alone,
There is one who cares and who strives to make things better.
An example for children with childhoods destroyed,
Showing life can exist after disaster.
Sometimes all it takes is the bravery of one
To strike a spark, find a way to the light,
Experience can change us, can scare us, derange us,
But to challenge it is half the fight.
Sometimes all it takes is the bravery of one...
